Do I believe in fate?
If by fate we mean a blind, impersonal force controlling our lives—then no!
But if we are talking about a sovereign God who lovingly writes our story with purpose, then yes, I believe in destiny. Just not the worldly version of it.
The world says, “What’s meant for you will find you.”
The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
That’s not fate. That’s sovereignty.
Before I knew Christ, I used to comfort myself with the idea that “everything happens for a reason.” But I didn’t know the “reason” behind everything. There’s a difference. Fate is impersonal. God is personal.
In the Book of Jeremiah 29:11 God declares that He knows the plans He has for us. To prosper us and not to harm us, to give us hope and a future. That’s not randomness. That’s intentional love.
At the same time, the Bible never removes our responsibility. We are not robots. We make choices. We obey or we rebel. We trust or we doubt. Yet somehow, in His divine wisdom, God weaves even our mistakes into His greater purpose as it is said in Romans 8:28:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
So no, I don’t believe in fate.
I believe in a faithful Father.
I believe in divine purpose.
I believe in redemption.
And I believe that when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, our future is not left to chance. It is held securely in His hands.
Not fate.
Faith.
