Last year, while reading through the book of Exodus, I was moved by God’s love and faithfulness to His people. Exodus 13:21 says:

“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.”

God didn’t just give the Israelites instructions and send them on their way—He was with them. He traveled with them, protected them, and guided them every step of the journey. That thought alone was so powerful that I felt inspired to put it into art.

I originally wanted to paint this on a big canvas, but I still find large-scale acrylic paintings a bit intimidating. So, instead, I created this piece on watercolor paper using gouache. It captures both the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, symbolizing God’s constant presence.

As I continue practicing with acrylics, I know I will eventually bring this vision to life on a larger canvas. For now, this smaller painting serves as a reminder that no matter where we go, God is always with us—leading, guiding, and providing light in our darkest times.
