Today’s passage fills my heart with gratitude for God’s deep and unchanging love. As I reflect on Moses’ words to the Israelites, I am reminded of how God prepares and guides His people, calling them into a special relationship with Him. He promises blessings for obedience and warns of the dangers of turning away. But what amazes me is that these truths are not just for the Israelites—they apply to us today as well.
Deuteronomy 7:9-11 says:
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face. You shall, therefore, be careful to do the commandments and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.”
What a comforting and sobering reminder! God is always faithful—He never breaks His promises. He blesses those who love and obey Him, but He is also just. Rejecting Him has real consequences, not because He is harsh, but because sin separates us from His love and blessings.
The Blessings of Obedience
“And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers.”
— Deuteronomy 7:12
God’s love is steadfast, and His blessings are abundant. While He promised the Israelites prosperity, health, and protection, we, too, receive these incredible blessings through Christ. As Ephesians 1:3-5 reminds us:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love, he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.”
Today, I am reminded to hold on to His promises, to trust in His faithfulness, and to walk in obedience, knowing that His love never fails.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your steadfast love and faithfulness that never fails. Help me to trust in Your promises and walk in obedience to Your Word, knowing that Your ways lead to life and blessing. Keep my heart faithful to You, turning away from sin and holding fast to Your truth each day. Thank You for the blessings I have in Christ and for the grace that sustains me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
